Steve ‘Interesting’ Davis, the six times world snooker champion was more than a sports personality. Joining forces with Rod Dearlove’s Voices from the Shadows magazine to help educate the soul world he was touring the world working whilst hunting down some quality soul at the same time. Steve was invited into the studio by Bob Jones to talk about some of his favourite soul records and so, brings with him some lesser known tunes from Independent labels. It’s 1991, the year he wins his first World Championship and we’re on Kiss FM. Interesting? Oh yes!
Believe it or not, Steve has been presenting ‘The Interesting Alternative Show’ on Phoenix FM each week for the past few years, where he confesses he “has a real vinyl problem”. We had to dig deep for this 30min sample so white gloves on and savor the moment.

Following three years presenting on Hospital radio, and two years on Solar Radio (in it's original state), Steve Hobbs joins Jazz FM in 1990 for an all soul show. Two years into his show the station decides to ditch all non-jazz programmes leaving his weekly SOUL BOWL show dead in the water. Bridging the gap between then and now, Steve had been a fundamental part of Blues & Soul magazine for seventeen years. You can now find Steve Hobbs in all his glory back on Solar Radio each Wednesday night. So what have we chosen? For this offering, we thought we would drop one of his last shows on Jazz FM – you can feel the frustration in his voice but the music holds it true. This is upfront soul music done properly. Credit for his commitment to the music.

Creative Director for Somethin’ Else Production Company, Jez Nelson currently resides on BBC Radio 3 but his history is long. Joining forces with Gilles Peterson to fire up the pirate jazz station K JAZZ back in the 1980s followed with an unforgettable stint on Kiss FM before joining Jazz FM. For this offering we give you Jez Nelson on Kiss with Manchester’s own Chapter and the Verse in interview. Groundbreaking radio from yesteryear and glad too that we are still privileged to have Jez Nelson each week on the Aunty Beeb. Kick off your slippers and crank up the iPod (if that’s possible).

The founder of Kiss FM, Gordon McNamee, joins up with British Radio Academy Hall of Fame member David Rodigan for a 'Version Excursion'. It's 4th May 1992 with reggae and soul tunes dropped side by side in an attempt to out wit each other. Kiss FM London two years into it’s legalisation and at it’s best before the shareholders decided to take the station on an alternative path. This is serious broadcasting history.
